Quick answers

Common support questions.

How do I back up my vault?

You don't have to. LifeVault backs itself up automatically: your vault is encrypted on your phone, and only then is the encrypted copy saved to your own cloud storage — your iCloud on iPhone, your Google Drive on Android. It never goes to a LifeVault server. Open Settings > Backups to see when the last one ran.

On Android, connect Google Drive once under Settings > Backups and it runs on its own after that. Those backups go to Drive's private app storage, so they will not show up among your ordinary Drive files.

If you also want a copy you hold yourself, tap Export Backup File, choose a password, and save the file wherever you like.

How do I delete all my data?

Go to Settings, scroll to the bottom, and tap "Erase Vault & Reset App." Type DELETE to confirm. This permanently removes every profile, record, contact, and document from this device. There is no account to close and no copy of your vault on our servers.

Backups already saved in your own iCloud or Google Drive are not removed by Erase Vault & Reset. To delete those, open Settings > Backups > Restore Backup and swipe left on a restore point. This cannot be undone.

Can I move my data to a new phone?

Yes, and you do not have to restore the whole phone to do it.

On iPhone — install LifeVault on a phone signed in to the same Apple ID with iCloud Drive on, and it can find your Automatic Backups and offer to bring your records, documents, and profiles back on first launch.

On Android — install LifeVault, then connect the same Google account under Settings > Backups. It can then find your Automatic Backups and restore them.

If you saved a Backup File instead, choose Settings > Backups > Restore Backup and pick the file. You will need the password you set when you created it.

LifeVault's backups are separate from your phone's own device backup — iCloud Backup on iPhone, Google's backup on Android — so a failed or switched-off device backup does not take them with it.

My backup is not completing.

On iPhone — the most common reason is that your iCloud account is out of space. Automatic Backup needs room in iCloud, and it needs iCloud Drive switched on. Free up storage or upgrade your plan and the next backup will go through.

On Android — check Settings > Backups first: Google Drive has to be connected once before Automatic Backup can run. If connecting does not work, LifeVault tells you why. A prompt to add a Google account means none is signed in on the device yet. A message about Google Play services means the device cannot reach Drive at all. Anything else is usually cleared by tapping Connect Google Drive again. As on iPhone, a full Google account will stop a new backup from finishing.

Your previous backup stays valid in the meantime and nothing on this device is affected. You can also create your own encrypted Backup File from Settings > Backups and keep it in Files, on an external drive, or anywhere you control.

How do I turn on Face ID?

App Lock is already on — there's no switch to flip. LifeVault locks itself from the moment you install it and relocks about a minute after you leave the app. We chose not to build an on/off toggle, because the main thing a toggle does is let someone switch protection off on a vault holding passports and medical records. Face ID or Touch ID unlocks it where available; if biometrics are denied or not set up, your device passcode does, and your vault stays protected either way. Settings shows what's protecting your vault under App Lock, and points you to iOS Settings if Face ID needs attention.

The app locked me out — what do I do?

LifeVault uses your device's Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode to unlock. If biometric authentication isn't working, try your device passcode. If you continue to have trouble, email support@lifevaultapp.com and we'll help troubleshoot.
